Valeria Marquez was speaking to her TikTok followers during a livestream from her beauty salon in Zapopan, Mexico, when someone arrived at her door with a small package.
“He’s a little piglet!” the 23-year-old beauty influencer exclaimed as she showed the stuffed animal to her viewers, smiling and tossing her long blonde hair over her shoulder.
Moments later, she was found dead, slumped over in her chair with blood pooling on the desk in front of her, while the livestream continued. The video only stopped when another person picked up her phone, briefly revealing their face to viewers.
The Attorney General’s office of Jalisco reported that Marquez was shot by a male intruder in her salon. The case is being investigated as a suspected femicide — a gender-based killing of a woman or girl.
Marquez’s death, as a public figure with over 100,000 Instagram followers, has deeply shocked a country already grappling with high rates of homicide and violence against women.
